Detailed description:

Savor Kakheti: A Wine and Culture Journey

Kakheti is the most popular wine region in Georgia, thanks to its proximity to Tbilisi. Many wine producers in the area have made it the number one destination in Georgia for tourists looking to explore the wine culture.

The first stop while driving to Kakheti is Bodbe Nunnery. Bodbe Nunnery of St. Nino is located 2 kilometers away from Sighnaghi. According to legend, it is built on the burial place of Saint Nino, a significant figure for Georgians who played a key role in the conversion to Christianity. Georgian kings paid great attention to the Bodbe Monastery, which has been repaired and restored many times. Besides its history, the area itself is very beautiful.

After the nunnery visit, we drive in the direction of Sighnaghi – the City of Love.

Sighnaghi, a town in Kakheti, is 75 km east of Tbilisi. Although it is one of Georgia’s smallest towns, it serves as a popular tourist destination due to its location in the heart of Georgia’s wine-growing region, picturesque landscapes, pastel houses with wooden fretwork balconies, and narrow, cobblestone streets.

There are numerous wineries in Kakheti, as the region is highly developed as a wine producer. Depending on preferences, one of the wineries can be chosen to visit during the tour.

The complex in Tsinandali includes the memorial house, a landscape garden, a historical winery, a wine cellar, a hotel, and a café. The vineyards have been restored, and wine production has resumed.

The landscape garden in Tsinandali is the first European-type recreation zone in Georgia, known for its exotic plants and layout. Within it, there is "the love lane."

It was in the Tsinandali winery that wine was first bottled in Georgia. Alexander Chavchavadze’s collection of vintage wines consists of over 15,000 bottles, with the oldest dating back to 1814.

We may have dinner in Telavi and drive back to Tbilisi via the Gombori mountain pass, which offers spectacular scenery along the way and also shortens the road.

Reach Tbilisi by evening.
