Racha Discovery Tour: Unveiling Georgia's Natural Beauty and Wine Heritage
Racha is one of the most spectacular places in Georgia, famous for its stunning nature, delicious wine, and hospitable people. The most esteemed wines originating from Georgia have their roots in the Racha region, such as Usakhelouri and Khvanchkara, both of which are red wines.
To begin the tour to the Racha destination, we conduct pickups at 9:00 am, as there is approximately a 3-hour drive to reach the region's sightseeing points. We take the newly opened road, which offers beautiful surroundings, allowing us to enjoy the scenery on our way to the destination.
The first stop is in Shkmeri, the highest-inhabited place in that area. We reach the main part of Racha around 1:00 pm. Racha is mainly a countryside area, and you will have the opportunity to see local villages with their unique cultures. In this region, many local families host tourists at their homes, so whether it's lunch or dinner, it can be a very interesting experience for everyone.
In the afternoon, we make a stop in Barakoni, Ambrolauri. A wine tasting is possible there, featuring Khvanchkara from Racha and three types of wine, including Khvanchkara. There is also the possibility to taste Usakhelouri wine, a unique and limited-production wine that many wineries around Georgia do not offer in their tasting options.
After the wine tasting, we drive up to Mravaldzali (weather permitting) and have a tour around. The village of Mravaldzali is situated 1840 meters above sea level. The green lake, surrounded by forested mountains, is a breathtaking sight. The lake is swampy and not suitable for swimming, with its shores covered in aquatic plants. Forests and fields surround the lake.
The visit to Mravaldzali depends on how the tour progresses; if other sightseeing consumes much time, we will head back to Tbilisi in order not to be too late.
We aim to reach Tbilisi by late evening.
